I believe a serial number should be informative and easy to understand. Many a guitar company has fallen victim to esoteric number schemes that change over the decades resulting in head-scratching and forum-arguing. There will be no such nonsense with your Tone Ranger guitar.

I use a seven digit serial. The first two digits are the month that finish was applied. 01 is January, 12 is December, etc. The next three digits are the production number, which is not limited to the model, but is the overall production number among all Tone Rangers. 001 is the first Tone Ranger I made, which happens to be a Double Barrel. 023 is the 23rd Tone Ranger I made, which is a High Horse VI. 562 is the five-hundred sixty-second Tone Ranger, which does not yet exist, but it soon will and it might even be yours. The last two digits are the year. The first Tone Ranger was made in October 2023, so its serial number is 1000123.

To celebrate the 1000th Tone Ranger, I will be adding a digit in the middle, and to celebrate the 10,000th Tone Ranger, I’ll add another digit, you get the idea. But the first two and last two digits will always be the month and year the finish was applied. All numbers are stamped into the wood and painted with a metallic marker.

I hope this is helpful to you but if you have any questions about your guitar, do not hesitate to drop me a line.
